Aloha!

Seventy years after Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Donald and Pluto enjoyed their Hawaiian Holiday, the Disney Company has announced plans to build a vacation resort on 21 acres of oceanfront property on the island of Oahu. The resort will feature 800 rooms, include DVC units and is scheduled to be open by 2011.

In addition to the 1937 classic Mickey Mouse short, Disney previously featured the island paradise as the settings of the 1952 Goofy cartoon Hello Aloha, and the 2002 animated feature Lilo and Stitch. Theme park connections include the classic Enchanted Tiki Room attractions and Walt Disney World's Polynesian Resort.

Tom--

The press release and other reports indicate that it is still very much in the embryonic stages and that it will likely be sometime next year before Imagineering announces specifics.

What's weird is that a couple of reports have alluded to the fact that there will not be a strong Disney character presence at the resort. It will be interesting to see how that will ultimately pan out.
