Disney’s announcement today of their planned development project on Walt Disney World's western perimeter comes as a bit of a non-event for park enthusiasts. The plans are very clearly for non-Disney themed development involving third party participation.
One key line from the press release:
"On the western edge of the resort, Disney is planning a mixed-use tourist commercial district just outside Disney’s gateway entrance. The master-planned development is comparable in size to Disney’s Animal Kingdom."
Take note: outside the gateway entrance. This is essentially going to be the western side equivalent of Lake Buena Vista and the Crossroads shopping center, just with a substantially greater retail presence. Certainly no Disney themed development ala Downtown Disney. Kind of a ho-hum revelation in my opinion.
